GLOBE Mexico

Over the past year GLOBE Mexico has played the key role in the Congress to advance legislation on climate change and REDD+.  Members from all parties have worked through GLOBE Mexico to pass groundbreaking laws.  GLOBE Mexico has been able to achieve this due to its neutral role and the quality of the policy and legal support.

In the past month GLOBE Mexico has been involved in one of the most important legislative processes: i) the approval of Mexico's Climate Change General Law, making it the second climate change law in the world and ii) reforms to the Environmental Equilibrium General Law and the Sustainable Forestry General Law, which will allow the implementation of REDD+.  This is the first law of its kind.

GLOBE Mexico will keep working to implement the Climate Change General Law in the following years, as well as achieving the outcomes of the World Summit of Legislators prior to Río +20.
